I’ve added a series of 5 monotypes to my Etsy Store. I was inspired by two things: the current MoMA exhibit on Degas and his monotypes, and a recent workshop at Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. I’m to visit New York soon to see the Degas show. It’s gotten great reviews and lots of media coverage. You can read more about it at MoMA’s website HERE.
The workshop, Hand Printed Monotype, was taught by Shushana Ruckerts. It was a timely refresher for a technique that I teach in my Discovering Printmaking class at Fleisher Art Memorial. Shushana taught us watercolor monotypes, dark field monotypes, and transfer drawing. Monotype is a printmaking technique where the image is created directly on the printing plate. There is no permanent matrix, so it is a one-of-a-kind image.
I learned a lot, including better ways to register prints. I’m happy with the 5 monotypes I made in the class. They are part of my on-going exploration of pattern and geometry. You can visit my Etsy shop HERE. There is also a permanent link from my website menu.
